Heading into the final weekend of October, Halloween and Nevada Day events will keep revelers busy through Sunday making for a jam packed weekend of fun for families and grownups around the Carson City region.
Before COVID-19, trick or treating had been changed to Friday, Oct. 30 since the Nevada Day Parade was falling on Oct. 31 this year. Despite the Nevada Day parade being cancelled, trick or treating is still happening Friday, Oct. 30 for the Carson City area, and Saturday in counties outside of Carson City. Plus, there's organized, safe trick or treating events happening Friday and Saturday in the region. Read on for more information.

Friday, October 30
— Virginia City celebrates Comstock's legendary haunts with week of Halloween events (all day). Halloween will be celebrated this week at one of the most haunted destinations in the country, Virginia City, where the Wild West and ghosts of the past are part of the Comstock's legendary folklore. There's a weekend of fun, family-friendly activities beginning Friday with a host ghost tours, safe trick-or-treating, a scavenger hunt, a paranormal investigation, a Halloween parade and more. — Carson City's historic east side tour and WNC movie showings added to Nevada Day event roster (all day). The historical east side tour begins at 10 a.m. The annual Nevada Day Chili feed at the Carson Nugget and a historic east-side tour of Carson City are among two new events that have been added to this weekend's roster of Nevada Day festivities. The same WNC parking lot will also be the site of the Made in Nevada Film Festival drive-in movies on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 30 and 31. Movie buffs can take a step back in history and not only cherish several films made in the Silver State, but view them in classic fashion.
— Carson City Chamber's Halloween Golf Tournament. 9 a.m. at Silver Oak Golf Course, 1251 Country Club Drive. A Halloween-themed golf tournament is planned for next Friday, October 30th at Silver Oak Golf where all the carts have been retrofitted with a plastic shield separating two riders and all mandated safety measures are strictly observed.
— Historic coin press to mint medallion recognizing health care workers as part of Nevada Day celebration. 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 600 N. Carson St. To honor and raise funds for Nevada’s health care workers, historic Coin Press No. 1 will mint a special medallion from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 30 at the Nevada State Museum, 600 N. Carson St. in Carson City. Interested participants can purchase up to two .999 fine silver planchets and watch as they are minted on the press. Cost for a planchet is $100; a portion of the proceeds will go to the COVID-19 Relief Fund, administered by the Community Foundation of Western Nevada.
— Nevada Artists Association Autumn Show. 12 to 4 p.m. at 449 W. King St. The Nevada Artist Association is proud to present the 2020 “Autumn Show” and the beautiful works of Featured Artists Karen Kreyeski and Maggie Stillwell. All the work in these shows is from Nevada Artist Association members. These shows are open to the public through Oct. 23rd. NAA is the largest Fine Arts Gallery in the Carson-Tahoe area featuring work from over 140 Northern Nevada artists, including paintings, photographs, sculptures, gourds, jewelry, textile art, glass, pottery, prints, cards and more.
— Railbike Tours and V&T Eastgate Depot host weekend festivities. Festivities being at 2 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. Halloween haunted fun for riders of all ages! Come in your costume and join us for a spooky ride. Family rides will be held at 6 p.m. with trick-or-treating along the V&T Bridge Short Rides route. For those 17 and older, join us for our spooky adult’s ride at 8 p.m. Zombies, ghosts, vampires, and monsters will be hiding along the Carson River Canyon route with lanterns lighting your way. Spooky Ride for ages 17 and older.
— Take a Ride on the Carson City Ghost Train at Mills Park. Two separate rides from 3 to 6 p.m. and 6:30 to 9 p.m. Carson City Railroad Association and Wild Horse Productions are presenting Ghost Train on Oct. 30 and 31. Tickets will go on sale Oct. 1 and will cost $5 per rider. There are two time slots for the ride: From 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. there will be “Alice in Halloweenland” which will be family friendly and open to all ages. From 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. there will be “Alice in Nightmareland” which is open to ages 13 and up.
— Carson Mall's Safe and Distanced Trick or Treat Event. 4 to 6 p.m. at 1308 S. Carson St. Come and Start Trick or Treating with us!! We will be having our safe and distant trick or treat this year!!! Please enter through the empty storefronts the doors that are marked registration on the west side parking lot by Dutch Brothers. Mask is required.
— Children's Museum of Northern Nevada Annual Safe Trick-or-Treat. 5 to 7 p.m. at 813 N. Carson St. The Children's Museum of Northern Nevada and Redemption Church Carson City will be hosting the Museum's annual Safe Trick-or-Treat event. The entire Museum gets a spooky twist to it and kids are able to go to each exhibit and trick-or-treat! This year the Museum has worked tirelessly to make the event safe due to Covid-19.
— Carson City Toyota presents 'Made in Nevada' Film Festival with BAC as part of statehood celebration. 6 to 10 p.m. at the Western Nevada College campus, 2201 W. College Pkwy. Friday, Oct. 30, at 6:15 p.m. will be "The Shootist," John Wayne’s last movie which also stars Lauren Bacall, Ron Howard and James Stewart. Portions of this film were shot on location on the west side of Carson City and Washoe Valley. At 8 p.m., we will screen "The Misfits," both Marilyn Monroe and Clark Gable’s last movie which also stars Montgomery Clift and was shot in parts of Reno, Dayton and Pyramid Lake.
— Superhero Costume Party at Crossroads Lounge. 7 p.m. at 300 E. Winnie Ln. Dress in your Favorite Hero Costume! Let's get together to Enjoy a few laughs, cocktails and friends.
— Halloween Costume Party at Living the Good Life. 7:30 p.m. at 1480 N. Carson St. Living the Good Life's Halloween Costume Party. Call 775-841-4663 to reserve your place for an incredible dinner. All current regulations will be enforced.
— New radio drama 'Secrets of Harridge House' premiers Friday on Carson City's KNVC. The radio drama premieres this Friday at 8 p.m. Secrets of Harridge House, a weekly radio drama produced by Proscenium Players, Inc. and KNVC 95.1 FM Carson City premieres this Friday, Oct. 30, 2020 at 8 p.m. Created by John Adams and Scott Young, the story follows three siblings who were separated as infants and reunited almost 30-years later as they inherit the family estate in fictional Harridge, Nev.
— Friday Night Karaoke at the Whiskey Tavern. 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. at 3481 Hwy 50 E. in Carson City. Come hang out with the Whiskey Tavern and J and M Productions as we sing the night away every Friday! Must be at least 21 years old.
Saturday, October 31

— Carson City's annual Carson Nugget Chili Feed added to Nevada Day events roster (all day). The historical east side tour begins at 10 a.m. The annual Nevada Day Chili feed will be held from 12 to 2:30 p.m. at 507 N. Carson St. The Carson Nugget and a historic east-side tour of Carson City are among two new events that have been added to this weekend's roster of Nevada Day festivities. — Carson City Balloon Launch. 8 to 8:30 a.m. viewable from Downtown Carson City. Watch the majestic hot air balloons launch at 8:00 a.m. on parade day (weather permitting). The balloons fly for about an hour.
— Annual Nevada Day Rock Drilling Contest at the Carson Mall Parking Lot. 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 1313 S. Carson St. The 46th Annual World Championship Single Jack Drilling Contest takes place on Saturday October 31st starting at 9:00 A.M. in the Carson Mall Parking Lot near Carson Homes Furnishings and Dutch Brothers. Contestants use 4 1/2 pound hammers and a 3/4″ bit of steel to drill as deep and fast as they can in a 4,320 pound piece of Sierra White Granite. They have 10 minutes to drill and their only help is from an assistant who runs water into the hole to clear out loose stone chips. The deepest hole wins.
— Nevada Day Gift and Card Show at the Carson Mall. 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 1313 S. Carson St. The Carson Mall has been approved to start doing our events again and our first event will be Nevada Day. Carson Mall is doing a craft show on Nevada Day and will be having it in the parking lot on the Carson Street side. Please join us on Oct. 31. The hours of the show will be 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. At this time no food trucks are permitted. The cost is $40 per space and it will be a first come, first served basis.
— Nevada Day Celebration at Bank Saloon. 9:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. at 418 S. Carson St. Celebrate Nevada Day at Bank Saloon on Saturday October 31st. Join us for a great day of cocktails, food and live music.
— Nevada Day Beard Contest at Red's Old 395 Grill. 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Beard Contest takes place at the Copper Pointe Plaza near Reds Old 395 starting at 10:00 A.M. There is no entry fee and anyone with a beard, and for the first time, a mustache, can enter. If you are interested in entering, or would like more details, stop by or call Nick (775-515-4038) at Cipriani’s Downtown Barbershop, located at 318 N Carson Suite 102. Categories include; Best overall, longest, fullest, reddest, best groomed, scruffiest, and most bearded community, plus for the first time, best mustache.
— Carson City Lions Club Chalk Art Contest. 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Carson City Host Lions Club is sponsoring a fun Chalk Art Contest as part of the Nevada Day festivities on October 31st. The contest is open to all Carson City residents, households, and businesses. Contestants will create chalk art masterpieces on their own driveways or sidewalks based on the Nevada Day theme of “My Favorite Moment in Nevada.”
— Prison Tours at the Nevada State Prison. 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at 3301 E. 5th St. Guided experience at the Nevada State Prison Historic Site on Nevada Day, Saturday, 31 October 2020. Each experience will last 90 minutes, and be prepared to walk about a half mile, and climb about 60 steps. We have 12 start times available, the first starts at 10 a.m., then every half-hour until the last one at 3:30 p.m.
— Stewart Indian School Museum Tours and Demonstrations. 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Jacobsen Way in Carson City. Three Great Basin Native artists will be demonstrating and sell their art for the public in the museum’s Wa-Pai-Shone Gallery. Linda Eben Jones, Paiute and Yavapai, and Stewart Class of 1965, will be demonstrating how she makes beaded bags.
— One Way Street at the Fox Brewpub. 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 310 S. Carson St. Nevada Day 2020 featuring One Way Street from 11am to 2pm. Brought to you by the businesses on the Bob McFadden Plaza!

— Trick-Or-Treat Safety Street at the Douglas County Fairgrounds. 12 to 5 p.m. at 920 Pinenut Rd. in Gardnerville. With a small admission fee of $4.00/person, Trick-or-Treaters can walk through a maze of more than 20 local businesses and enter into a raffle for a chance to win prizes and one of three costume contests.

— Western Nevada College's Reverse Nevada Day Parade. 2 to 4 p.m. at the WNC parking lot. You won’t be able to watch the Nevada Day Parade or participate in it because of the coronavirus pandemic, but you can see the parade entries via your vehicle at WNC’s parking lot from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 31. Titled the Reverse Parade, don’t miss your favorite parade entries while listening to ambient music provided by the Brewery Arts Center. Among the entries will be WNC Automation and Industrial Technology Center’s Tech Express Lab, which will serve as a mobile teaching space beginning in Spring 2021.
— Crazy Cat Dog Grooming to host safe trick and treat event in Carson City. 2 to 8 p.m. at 4630 U.S. Hwy 50 E. Suite 12. This Saturday, Oct. 31 from 2 to 8 p.m. Crazy Cat Dog Grooming in Carson City will host a safe trick or treat for the community. There will be a professional photographer on site for Halloween photos. All social distancing guidelines will be followed. Kids and pets welcome.

— Carson City Parks and Rec hosts 'Spooktacular' Full Moon Hike at Silver Saddle Ranch. 6 p.m. The Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department will host a special Full Moon Hike this Saturday, October 31st, at Silver Saddle Ranch. Come experience a full moon costume adventure that can only happen once in a Blue Moon. Meet at Silver Saddle Ranch dressed in your best Halloween Costume. We will walk to the Carson River and back to ranch in a 2 mile loop. The trail is considered Easy according to the IMBA Trail Rating System.
— Community Safe Halloween in Carson City. 6 to 8 p.m. at Sew-n-Sew Alterations, 3179 S. Carson St. Halloween isn't over just because Carson City will celebrate Halloween on Friday Nope, We Thin Veilers are hosting a Drive By Trick Or Treating event on Saturday October 31, for a Community Safe Halloween for Children and Adults.
— Made in Nevada Film Festival Drive-In Movies. 6 to 10 p.m. at the Western Nevada College campus, 2201 W. College Pkwy. On Oct. 31 after the reverse Nevada Day Parade in the same space, the evening festivities will be more geared towards kids with "The Muppets" beginning at 6:15 p.m. and "Sister Act" beginning at 8 p.m. Both films had portions shot in very recognizable Reno locations. Kids will receive Trick or Treat goodie bags upon check in and be invited to participate in a socially distanced costume parade.
— Halloween Dinner Party at Living the Good Life. 7:30 to 11:30 p.m. Living the Good Life's Halloween Party & Costume Party. Call 775-841-4663 to reserve your place for an incredible dinner. All current regulations will be enforced.
— Halloween Masquerade Party at Lamplighter Bar. 8 p.m. to 12 a.m. at 260 W. Winnie Ln. Mask Up and dress up! What better way to celebrate these trying times than to dress up like they did in the 16th century? Reserve your table.
— Full Moon Halloween at the Blue Bull. 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. at 107 E. Telegraph St. We have a DJ and costume contest and cool drinks to choose from. Let’s not forget that it is Nevada Day as well! So why not start early with Peeps and D during the day and then Close it down with Stina and Kalynn!
Sunday, November 1
— Carson City Library hosts National Novel Writing Month (all day). Do you aspire to be a writer? Do you have a writing project that you keep postponing? Do you want to compete in a challenge this November? Be a part of the worldwide pledge to write 50,000 words during the month of November!
— Carson City symphony opens 37th season with virtual celebration of capital city history (all day). The Carson City Symphony, directed by David Bugli, will open its 37th season with a virtual community music and dance project celebrating Carson City history, the “Hank Monk Schottische” virtual performance project. Instrumental musicians and dancers of all ages are invited to participate.
— Carson River Canyon Railbike Tours. 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 4650 Eastgate Siding Road. Visit Carson City, in partnership with the V&T Railway Commission, have announced an all-new attraction unlike any other in northern Nevada. Railbikes will run Tuesday-Sunday, four times a day 10 a.m., noon, 2p.m. and 4 p.m. Excursions are $45 per person. Tickets may be purchased online at vtrailway.com.
— Raiders Chapter Game Watch at Jimmy G's Cigar Bar. 9:30 a.m. at 301 N. Carson St. What’s up Nevada Raider Nation, so last week wasn’t the best game for our boys but we are the most resilient team out there and we will bounce back!
— Sierra Nevada Landscape Art Show. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Prism Photographics, 1615 U.S. Hwy 395 N. Suite B in Minden. Come join us for a landscape art show on Sunday! There will be dozens of pieces on display and for sale. You don’t want to miss out on these great deals.
